“Chucking 700 gram steel balls to get close to a little wooden ball” is a very succinct description!

Petersfield is very lucky to have a purpose built terrain behind the Avenue pavilion that is hardly used so it can be hired (for a small fee) from the Town Council most of the week.

Petanque can be played as singles, doubles (using 3 boules) or triples (using 2 boules).

The only “problem” is that to play it “properly” a set of 3 tournament boules is required (if you buy a cheaper set of “leisure boules” they are usually in pairs). I have a small selection of begged and borrowed boules for general use. Once you get “hooked”, as I have, (ask my wife!) I suggest that you buy your own set.  The cheapest way is to pick them up while on holiday in France , but there is a small selection on the Internet. You can select both the weight and the diameter of boules within an acceptable range.

I know many of you are very busy with other activities but Petanque outdoors in the summer can’t be beaten.
